AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF LEGAL FEES INCURRED
BY INDIVDUAL COUNCIL MEMBERS UP TO THE AMOUNT OF $15,000.00 FOR
OUTSIDE REPRESENTATION IN LEGAL MATTERS THAT ARISE FROM THE
INDIVIDUAL COUNCIL MEMBER’S EXERCISE OF COUNCIL DUTIES DURING
THE REGULAR COURSE OF COUNCIL MEETINGS AND AT ANY OTHER
OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED EVENTS AS APPROVED BY COUNCIL AND
DECLARING AN EMERGENCY
WHEREAS, Council desires to provide for the payment of legal fees incurred by individual Council Members up to the amount of $15,000.00 for outside representation in legal matters that arise from the individual Council Member’s exercise of Council duties during the regular course of Council Meetings and at any other officially sanctioned events as approved by Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ST. CLAIRSVILLE, OHIO:
SECTION 1: That, Council authorizes the payment of legal fees incurred by individual Council Members up to the amount of $15,000.00 for outside representation in legal matters that arise from the individual Council Member’s exercise of Council duties during the regular course of Council Meetings and at any other officially sanctioned events as approved by Council.
SECTION 2: That, the City Finance Director is authorized and directed to pay any such invoices for outside legal representation up to the amount of $15,000.00.
SECTION 3: That, any legal fees in excess of the initial $15,000.00 will be subject to further review and Council approval.
SECTION 4: That, this Resolution is declared to be an emergency measure for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety and welfare of the City so that the City can maintain normal operations.
SECTION 5: That this resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by the Charter of the City of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
PASSED at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of St. Clairsville on this 3rd day of July, 2023, by the affirmative vote of 5 members of the Council.
