Donations to assist delinquent utility account holders must be directed to the St. Clairsville Council of Churches
A note from Mayor Thalman…
As a visible sign of how we are #in this together Ohio, numerous City residents have inquired of the Municipal Utilities Office staff if they could contribute anonymously to help prevent utility disconnects for others in our community. To these kind individuals, I want to personally say thank you.
Unfortunately, the Municipal Utilities Office cannot accept unspecified donations. The City Council has not created a special fund for this purpose nor is there an administrative procedure in place to disperse donations of any size. The one exception to this ban on donations is, if a donor wishes to do so, they may make a payment directly to a specific customer’s account.
All unspecified, anonymous contributions to date have been returned to the generous donors, except for cash donations which the City will transfer to the St. Clairsville Council of Churches. As you may know, the Council of Churches for years has played a role in connecting various types of donations with members of our community who need short-term assistance. The Council will direct these donated funds into the utilities accounts of our neighbors who have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus.
Donations to this cause in the form of checks or money orders must be made payable to:
St. Clairsville Council of Churches. Please write “Care Fund” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to: St. Clairsville Council of Churches, P.O. Box 563, St. Clairsville, OH 43950.
City utility customers must contact the Council of Churches directly to begin the process of obtaining utility payment assistance, if eligible. Any of the following churches may be called to initiate the process:
Calvary Presbyterian Church – 740-695-0242
East Richland Friends Church – 740-695-0971
First Presbyterian Church – 740-695-0690
St. Mary’s Catholic Church – 740-695-9993
Thoburn United Methodist Church – 740-695-0770
Harbor of Hope Assembly of God – 740-695-2922.
Thank you to all who are helping with this initiative!
