City celebrates Public Power Week

St. Clairsville Light & Power Celebrates Public Power Week, Oct. 2-8

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, OH – LIGHT & POWER is celebrating Public Power Week (#PublicPowerWeek), Oct. 2-8, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“Public Power Week celebrates the community-owned electricity that light & power provides to our community,” said Light & Power’s Don Smithberger, Superintendent of General Services for the City of St. Clairsville. “Public power puts the people of St. Clairsville first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our citizens.”

Today, St. Clairsville Light & Power has 8 employees and 4 generators, emergency power plants, and 2 substations. It serves 3,155 residential customers and 300 commercial customers.

“Our service is reliable and safe, and we take pride in serving our friends and neighbors,” said Don Smithberger.  He continued, “St. Clairsville Light & Power is proud to have served St. Clairsville for 131 years.”
